Grow Your Career with the HCA Richmond Internship in Operating Room Nursing

Do you have at least one year of hospital experience as an RN and want to broaden the horizons of your career? Apply for the HCA Richmond Health System's Internship in Operating Room Nursing and grab your scrubs!

With the average age of OR nurses being higher than 49, the national average for all registered nurses, it is estimated that ORs will lose between 35 and 40 percent of their nurses within the next five years. So HCA Richmond is investing in the power of education to get more nurses into the OR.

The program, which begins on April 21 and will last six to nine months depending on individual progress, will give seven nurses the opportunity to receive didactic training in the classroom and practice what they learn in clinical rotations among HCA Richmond's four hospitals (CJW Medical Center, Retreat Hospital, John Randolph Medical Center, and Henrico Doctors' Hospital). The classroom curriculum is the Periop 101: A Core Curriculum™ developed by the Association of peri-Operative Registered Nurses.

At the end of the internship, the students will be placed in the HCA Richmond hospital that is the right match for each one as determined by the students, OR directors, and clinical educator. All HCA Richmond asks in return is a two-year commitment of employment.

CJW Offers New Opportunities and Programs for RNs

CJW Medical Center has a number of new opportunities available that will allow nurses to expand the scope of their careers, including a brand-new unit, two residency and internship programs, and new flexible scheduling options through a Central Resource Pool.

The new Johnston-Willis ICU, opening soon, will be a 14-bed progressive combined ICU with all state-of-the-art equipment. It will be supported by HCA Richmond's eICU WATCH system, which keeps ICU patients at all four HCA Richmond hospitals electronically monitored around the clock by physicians, critical care nurses and data managers. RNs on the ICU will benefit from flexible scheduling options, a collaborative environment with physicians, individualized orientation and mentoring by experienced staff.

New graduate RNs are encouraged to apply for the *CJW Nurse Residency program* , which begins in January. This 12-week program helps new nurses transition from the classroom to the clinical setting. Through clinical rotations and weekly seminars on key topics, participating nurses will expand their knowledge base, build their confidence, and improve their skills. Apply online now.

Nurses with at least one year of acute-care experience can apply for CJW's Emergency Nursing Internship, an intensive program for RNs looking to move into the challenging field of emergency nursing. During this 16-week program, participating nurses will receive instruction and clinical orientation on core emergency topics, trauma, emergency pediatrics, crisis intervention and disaster preparedness. Apply online now.

The Central Resource Pool allows participating nurses to commit to some basic scheduling requirements and earn more money for floating between competency categories, units, and campuses. It's a great way for nurses to work in various units according to skill and need while earning more money for doing so. Learn more and apply online.
